The Greatest of These is Love

So here we are.  Three months older since the last time I wrote……..hopefully three months wiser.  Today Jared pulled a gray hair off my head.  I told him it’s because he stresses me out, but maybe it’s because I’m getting wiser.  One can only hope.  The spring semester is coming to a close in just three and a half short weeks.  Much has happened.
The students have gone and returned from 10-day outreaches.  They were able to come alongside ministries in Spain, Ukraine, Romania, Asia, and Hungary.  As it is the spring we only have a few new students and it has been a joy to get to know them as well as grow more in friendship with those returning from last semester.  They seem to be thriving here in the city as well as working out their faith one day at a time.
Jared is still working vigilantly on keeping the school electronically working and keeping the conference center in Vajta going with IT work.  The work he does with digital storage and the file server usually has my head spinning, but I know everyone is grateful to have him around.
I have been continuing with everything I was doing last semester.  I feel like I’ve been making a little more progress in Hungarian.  There is still no lack of frustrating days it seems, but the moments when I finally can introduce myself to my neighbor, or tell the butcher how much and what kind of meat I want, are times that do bring a smile and the knowledge that I am just a tiny bit closer being able to verbally communicate the love of Jesus to the people here.  If I am able to get a job here knowing Hungarian will really open up some possibilities.
The month of April came with some really deep discouragement for me.  Our baby would have been born in April of last year, and it still hits me hard at times.  It seems that when you are down with one thing the enemy likes to hit you with every other short coming and self-doubt there is.  Having the students gone on 10-day outreaches about that time seemed to compound it, but it did allow Jesus to shed some light on some areas of my life the need refining.
I’ve been praying much about love.  Mostly that God would show me how to love others in a godly 1 Corinthians 13 kind of a way.  How can I love others in a way that suffers long and is kind?  A way that doesn’t envy, and does not parade itself.  How do I love others in a way that isn’t puffed up?  When I love others I need to not behave rudely, seek my own, not be provoked, and think no evil.  How do I love others by not rejoicing in iniquity but rejoicing in the truth?  We’ve been looking at these things during our discipleship time with the intern girls and it has been very personally challenging.  Often in ministry and life I find myself so disappointed in others and in situations.  I have found more and more recently that the problem lies in my perspective and who I see God as.  God is all of these things and has already loved me in this way.  I realize that if I can see more fully the depth of God’s love for me I can more fully love others without any expectation of return.  What a freedom that can be.

Thank you so much to all of you who have prayed for us over these last months.  Please continue.  We need it dearly.  We look forward to having some time in California for the months of June, July, and part of August so I can get in some hours at the hospital.  We still have a financial short fall of about $1,000/month.  If you feel led to give all the information you need is below.
