A Full Barn

Summer 2017

Here we are already in the month of July.  Things have continued to be eventful since I last wrote.  The spring semester has come and gone in which we have been able to host a lot of the students and staff at our home here on campus.  I have been able to spend more time with the girls, which has been so refreshing and wonderful.  Many cups of tea and coffee have been consumed, as well as quite a few puzzles assembled around our little Ikea table.  Please continue to pray for the girls as they try to navigate this crazy world, but continue to learn what it means for God to be our everything.

In April I was able to attend the private wedding ceremony of my sister Abigail in California.  Jared came up with the idea and we decided to surprise her.  It was such a blessing to be there, rejoice with my family and spend more time getting to know my new brother-in-law.  I was also able to come home in June for the reception and fit in some shifts at the hospital.

Two become one

Conference season has arrived and is now if full swing.  I will be spending most of my time working in the coffee shop while Jared plans for the move, and helps with the SOS (Summer of Service) work crews.  I have been working on my Hungarian and am able to use some of it as the majority of the conference guests are Hungarian speakers.  My brother Luke is still here and will be finishing out his internship at the beginning of next year.  It’s a joy to have him here for however long it will be.

The preparations for the move to Budapest are continuing and now things are starting to move more.  Several of the staff families have already transitioned or are beginning to pack and move their belongings up to the city.  We are excited to say that we have found an apartment and signed our contract on Sunday.  We will move at the end of August, when the conference season has ended.  It is a great place with plenty of space for discipleship, hosting, or even Jared working from home if need be.  It’s just a ten-minute walk from where classes will be held.  It’s the first time either of us has ever lived in our own apartment.  It’s a bit odd, but we are excited to see how God will provide all of the finances we need to sustain whatever it is that He has for us.

I have often been reminded by God in this season that I'm not called to comfort or happiness, but to strive for holiness.

Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
Proverbs 3:9&10

Well I don't really have any barns right now, but I'm pretty sure this means we are to honor the LORD with the good stuff, not our half used rotten things that we no longer want.  We are to honor him with those things that have the most value to us.  It is then that we will truly know the richness of the return.

Let us know how we can be praying for all of you.  Thank you so much for all your prayers and financial support.  You are a part of what is happening here in Hungary.

Prayer Requests:
1.     All will go smoothly for finalizing all of the details for the move including student housing, office space, staff housing, and moving everything up to Budapest.
2.     For our move that we can get everything done in a timely manner.
3.     For finances as we still need more support to continue in the ministry here.
4.     The students as they adjust to life in the big city.
5.     Unity among the staff as we move forward with all the changes.

6.     That we would be able to improve our Hungarian language skills.
