Christmas is Coming!

Fall is almost over and the trees are again giving up their leaves.  I have finished my Hungarian course, and am trying to keep up the momentum of learning by continuing to dedicate much time to my language studies.  Fortunately, I have an endless supply of Hungarian resources at my fingertips, and many around me who continue to encourage me.  Instead of the four week course I was able to take a slightly more advanced course for seven weeks.  It was time well spent, and I’m so thankful for the opportunities opening up already to develop relationships that I had not been able to pursue before.  One day after class I met one of my neighbors on the street and was able to more than just exchange names with her.  Not being able to connect with my neighbors through speech has been really difficult for me.  My Hungarian teacher also offered to teach a class for our students so we now have a class in our home once a week.
Our first Scheller family Christmas tree!
Jared making sure it's just right
I was able to go to Cyprus in October to help in children’s ministry for the Middle Eastern Refresh Conference.  It was wonderful to catch up with some old friend, meet new ones, and spend time with the kiddos.  The island itself was lovely and quite a bit warmer than Budapest.
With Lisa and Kayla who came with me from Budapest.  We were also Joined by Abbie and Becky from New Zealand.
Just last week I was able to meet up with a few work friends from California in Paris.  It was a lovely time to connect more with them get a little time away.  The city was breath taking and so full of history.  I learned so much.
Me with my friends Carmen and Jennifer from the hospital in in California.
I couldn't leave without taking one of these photos.
My job search continues.  I have been able to find a few babysitting jobs, which has been helpful.  There is a possibility that I might be able to watch a few Hungarian speaking kids, but I’m hoping to improve my language skills a bit first.   Three to four times a week we are hosting staff and/or students at our apartment, and I’m often cooking and baking.  I continue to work in the nursery at church.  It’s been such a blessing to get to know some of the ladies.  The kids Hungarian skills are a good challenge for me, and confirm that I do indeed talk like a toddler.  I finally remembered last week how to tell them to be careful, so that’s a step in the right direction.
Here we are in November already.  The semester comes to a close in just three weeks.  Students arrived back from their 10-day outreaches three weeks ago, which is always exciting.  Putting your hands to the plow full speed ahead definitely has a different feel than the classroom.  In this second half of the semester I am helping Pam Markey with our School of Mission program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  I have the responsibility of grading, hosting, and making sure things are taken care of.  I will be teaching class this Thursday, so please be in prayer for that.  This semester we are covering the history of missions, and it’s always refreshing to talk about such deep dedication and learn from them with a new group of students.
Out SoM (School of Mission) students all fit on one couch.  Don't they look ready to learn?!
Jared is keeping busy as always keeping an eye on all things technical here in Budapest and in Vajta.  It’s always a dance with things breaking, power outages, and phone issues.  We are both grading correspondence courses, which will get much busier as the end of the semester approaches.
We head back to California on December 16th for five weeks.  I will hopefully be getting some hours in at the hospital, and we will be traveling to Oregon to visit Jared’s family.  My brother Luke will be married in January and then it’s back to Budapest for us.  I am also hoping to have a medical procedure done while we’re there.  If you are interested in helping with medical expenses our support information is below.
Thank you so much to all of you for your prayers and support.

CCBCE Fall 2018 is here!!

Well here we are back in Hungary after ten weeks in the States.  Can you believe that’s the longest Jared has been in the States since he moved here twelve years ago?  That brings with it its own set of challenges, but he made it through fine.
So, first of all some answered prayer requests.  I have not been able to find a job here as of yet so the answer is no for now, but I will continue looking for opportunities.
Our summer in California was very productive.  As my normal unit at the hospital did not need any extra hands, I was given the opportunity to work in the Emergency Department.  It was a little unfamiliar and uncomfortable at first, but after a few weeks I felt better, and by the end I was really enjoying it.  I was able to refresh some skills, and meet lots of new and wonderful people in the process.  There was no shortage in hours available, so I was able to work quite a bit to offset some medical bills and travel expenses.  Jared was even able to help out some friends with fixing up their house.
About a month in I was able to travel to Maryland for my brother’s wedding, Jared’s parents came to visit a few weeks later, and the last week before we returned we were able to spend time in the mountains with most of my family.  It has been a long time since so many of us were together, and it was quite memorable.
Now, back into the swing of ministry here in Budapest.  The semester is fast approaching.  Student arrivals begin in just five days!!  We have some new additions to the office and teaching staff.  I’m looking forward to getting to know them all.  School starts September third for the bible college and also for me.  I will be taking a four-week language course.  I’m really excited and hopeful for continued progress in my learning.  It will be three hours a day, five days a week, with homework of course.
Jared is jumping right into semester preparation with updating the Moodle (our online program for all of our classes), and getting staff up to date with how to do everything they need to in regards to their own specific courses.  I’m beginning to prepare my calendar filled with Language school, being a TA for our missionary leadership course, prayer times, and discipleship with the girls.  We will also be continuing with our coffee time and nerd herd gatherings with the students at our apartment.
I was encouraged by this verse in my reading the other day.

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
Romans 11:29

The beginning of chapter ten talks about Israel’s rejection of God not being complete, nor final, and then this verse is slapped on the end.  The chapter then continues to explain that just as God has shown the Romans that through their disobedience they were shown mercy just as the Israelites were.  It reminds me of this verse in Luke.

“Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiventhe same loves little.”
Luke 7:47
It was just a good reminder to follow Christ in the gifts and calling He has given us.  Also in the context of being forgiving as we have been forgiven much and experienced mercy through our disobedience.  I pray that this would be my heart with the students this semester.  Thank you so much to all of you for your prayers and support.
