Fall is almost over and the trees are again
giving up their leaves. I have finished my Hungarian course, and am
trying to keep up the momentum of learning by continuing to dedicate much time
to my language studies. Fortunately, I have an endless supply of
Hungarian resources at my fingertips, and many around me who continue to
encourage me. Instead of the four week course I was able to take a
slightly more advanced course for seven weeks. It was time well spent,
and I’m so thankful for the opportunities opening up already to develop
relationships that I had not been able to pursue before. One day after
class I met one of my neighbors on the street and was able to more than just
exchange names with her. Not being able to connect with my neighbors
through speech has been really difficult for me. My Hungarian teacher
also offered to teach a class for our students so we now have a class in our
home once a week.

I was able to go to Cyprus in October to help
in children’s ministry for the Middle Eastern Refresh Conference. It was
wonderful to catch up with some old friend, meet new ones, and spend time with
the kiddos. The island itself was lovely and quite a bit warmer than
Budapest.
With Lisa and Kayla who came with me from Budapest. We were also Joined by Abbie and Becky from New Zealand. |
Just last week I was able to meet up with a
few work friends from California in Paris.
It was a lovely time to connect more with them get a little time away. The city was breath taking and so full of
history. I learned so much.

My job search continues. I have been
able to find a few babysitting jobs, which has been helpful. There is a
possibility that I might be able to watch a few Hungarian speaking kids, but
I’m hoping to improve my language skills a bit first. Three to four
times a week we are hosting staff and/or students at our apartment, and I’m
often cooking and baking. I continue to work in the nursery at
church. It’s been such a blessing to get to know some of the ladies. The kids Hungarian skills are a good
challenge for me, and confirm that I do indeed talk like a toddler. I finally remembered last week how to tell
them to be careful, so that’s a step in the right direction.
Here we are in November already. The
semester comes to a close in just three weeks. Students arrived back from
their 10-day outreaches three weeks ago, which is always exciting.
Putting your hands to the plow full speed ahead definitely has a different feel
than the classroom. In this second half of the semester I am helping Pam
Markey with our School of Mission program on Tuesday and Thursday
afternoons. I have the responsibility of grading, hosting, and making
sure things are taken care of. I will be
teaching class this Thursday, so please be in prayer for that. This
semester we are covering the history of missions, and it’s always refreshing to
talk about such deep dedication and learn from them with a new group of
students.
Out SoM (School of Mission) students all fit on one couch. Don't they look ready to learn?! |
Jared is keeping busy as always keeping an eye
on all things technical here in Budapest and in Vajta. It’s always a
dance with things breaking, power outages, and phone issues. We are both
grading correspondence courses, which will get much busier as the end of the
semester approaches.
We head back to California on December 16th for
five weeks. I will hopefully be getting some hours in at the hospital,
and we will be traveling to Oregon to visit Jared’s family. My brother
Luke will be married in January and then it’s back to Budapest for us. I
am also hoping to have a medical procedure done while we’re there. If you
are interested in helping with medical expenses our support information is
below.
Thank you so much to all of you for your
prayers and support.
